Essential oil production = forest production
Yawaraca goes into neglected areas of reforestation to thin the trees and runs fragrance-themed craft,
laboratory, school, and spa operations.

We use jisugi, not Yakusugi.
Through a strategy of returning thinned forests to their natural state of broadleaf evergreen forests,
we value a lifestyle that will connect future generations to a world of abundant nature.
“A green tourism”for the customers to increase awareness of Yawaraca’s action.
The word jisugi refers to young cryptomeria trees planted after World War II, in contrast to Yakusugi, which are ancient cryptomeria trees surpassing 1,000 years of age. The age difference is immediately obvious by comparing tree rings or trunk width. Because both Yakusugi and jisugi have endured the island’s harsh weather and nutrient-lacking soils, they both have a characteristic wood composition and higher oil content than trees growing on the main Japanese island of Honshu. The current ravaged state of forests and failure to utilize jisugi of optimum age are a problem shared by all regions of Japan, and there is great significance in extracting essential oils from jisugi instead of Yakusugi.
